PS5 Controller Test: Check Your DualSense
Test your PS5 DualSense controller online: every button, the touchpad click, stick drift, L2 and R2, and rumble. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Runs in your browser. Your button presses and stick readings never leave this device. No upload, no sign-up.
Waiting for a controller. Press any button on it.
Connect your controller, click this page, then press any button on the controller. Browsers show a controller to a page only after one of its buttons is pressed.
If nothing happens when you press a button:
- Click anywhere on this page, then press a button again. Browsers send controller input only to the window in front.
- On a cable, try another USB port and a cable that carries data. Some cables only charge.
- Over Bluetooth, check that the controller shows as connected in your system's Bluetooth settings.
- Close apps that can take over the controller, such as Steam, DS4Windows or a game, then reconnect it.
- Still nothing? Try another browser, then work through the fixes further down this page.

How to test a PS5 controller
- Connect your DualSense with a USB-C cable, or pair it over Bluetooth (the steps are below). Click this page, then press the PS button or any other button.
- Press every button once: ×, ○, □ and △, L1 and R1, Create and Options, the D-pad, the PS button, both sticks (push them in for L3 and R3) and the touchpad (press it down until it clicks).
- Move both sticks around the edge in slow circles, then press L2 and R2 slowly all the way down and let go.
- Put the controller on a table and press Test stick drift. Don't touch it for 7 seconds.
- Try the rumble buttons, then press Copy report to keep the results.
DualSense buttons in the browser
Browsers number the DualSense's buttons the way they number every controller's: by position. Web games read these numbers, so a game that shows Xbox prompts calls × "A" and ○ "B".
| Number | DualSense | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Cross (×) | The bottom face button |
| 1 | Circle (○) | The right face button |
| 2 | Square (□) | The left face button |
| 3 | Triangle (△) | The top face button |
| 4, 5 | L1, R1 | The shoulder buttons |
| 6, 7 | L2, R2 | Analog: 0 when released, 1 when fully pressed |
| 8 | Create | The small button left of the touchpad |
| 9 | Options | The small button right of the touchpad |
| 10, 11 | L3, R3 | Pressing the left and right sticks in |
| 12–15 | D-pad up, down, left, right | Four separate buttons |
| 16 | PS button | Below the touchpad |
| 17 | Touchpad click | In Chrome and Edge; other browsers may leave it out |
| None | Mute button | Browsers don't report it |
The left stick is axes 0 (left and right) and 1 (up and down), and the right stick is axes 2 and 3. Pushing a stick up gives -1 and pulling it down gives 1.
Connect a DualSense to a computer
With a USB-C cable
Plug the controller into the computer with a USB-C cable that carries data; some cables only charge. Windows 11 and macOS recognize the DualSense without extra software. A cable is also the quickest way to rule out Bluetooth problems: if the controller works on a cable and not wirelessly, the buttons and sticks are fine.
Over Bluetooth on Windows 11
- Hold the Create button and the PS button together until the light bar around the touchpad flashes quickly.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device → Bluetooth.
- Choose DualSense Wireless Controller. Some versions of Windows list it as Wireless Controller.
- When Windows says it's connected, click this page and press a button.
Over Bluetooth on a Mac
- Hold Create and the PS button until the light bar flashes.
- Open System Settings → Bluetooth, find DualSense Wireless Controller and click Connect.
- Click this page and press a button.
To use the controller with your PS5 again, connect it to the console with a USB cable and press the PS button. The console pairs with it again.
What a browser can and can't check on a DualSense
- Touchpad. Pressing the pad down is one button, usually button 17 in Chrome and Edge. Browsers don't pass on where your finger is, so swipes and multi-finger touches can't be tested in a browser.
- Mute button. Most browsers don't report it, so it never lights up here. That doesn't mean it's broken: on a PS5, it glows orange when the microphone is muted.
- Adaptive triggers. The test reads how far L2 and R2 travel, from 0 to 1. A browser's controller support has no way to switch on the trigger resistance, so the effect itself only shows in games and apps that use it.
- Haptics and rumble. Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or later on a Mac can send a simple two-motor rumble to controllers that accept it; Firefox can't. The detailed haptic effects PS5 games use aren't available to web pages.
- Light bar and player lights. Web pages can't change them, so the test doesn't check them.
- Motion sensors, speaker and headset jack. A browser's controller support doesn't include them, so they can't be tested here.
What the results mean for a DualSense
A button works if it lights up while you press it and goes dark when you let go. A button that needs a hard press, or works only when pressed from one side, is wearing out. The touchpad click and the PS button are easy to forget, so press them too.
DualSense sticks report 256 positions on each axis, so their readings move in steps of about 0.008, and a centered stick can read a few thousandths away from 0. That's normal. The drift test calls a stick normal when it rests less than 0.03 from center, slight drift from 0.03 to 0.08 and severe drift above that, and suggests a dead zone: the furthest reading plus 0.02. If a stick drifts, How to fix controller stick drift covers dead zones, cleaning, repair and the DualSense Edge's replaceable stick modules.
L2 and R2 should rise smoothly from 0 to 1.00 on a slow press and fall back to 0 when you let go. A trigger that stops short of 1.00 may be blocked by dirt or a worn spring; one that skips part of its travel may have a worn sensor. Run the drift test too: it also checks that both triggers read 0 at rest.
PS5 controller not working on your computer?
Your DualSense isn't found
Browsers show a controller only after you press one of its buttons while the page is open, and only to the window in front. If that doesn't help, check that your computer sees it.
Windows 11
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices and check that the controller shows as connected. If it's listed but not connected, remove it and pair it again.
- On a cable, try another USB-C cable, since many only charge, and plug it into a port on the computer itself rather than a hub.
macOS
- Open System Settings → Bluetooth and check that DualSense Wireless Controller shows as connected.
- If it won't connect, click the info button next to it, choose Forget This Device, and pair it again.
Click this page before you press a button: browsers send controller input only to the window in front.
Buttons are missing or mixed up
Steam and tools such as DS4Windows can take over a PlayStation controller and change what other apps see.
- Quit Steam and DS4Windows, unplug the controller or turn it off, then reconnect it and test again.
- If you keep Steam open, turn off Steam Input for PlayStation controllers in Steam's controller settings.
- If the mapping line says Not standard, try Chrome or Edge, which recognize the DualSense layout.
Most browsers don't report the mute button, and only some report the touchpad click.
It keeps disconnecting over Bluetooth
- Charge it fully. A low battery causes dropouts before the controller switches off.
- Move closer to the computer and away from other wireless gear, such as Wi-Fi routers and USB 3 hubs.
- Remove the controller from your Bluetooth settings and pair it again.
- If it stays connected on a cable, the wireless link is the problem, not the buttons or sticks.
It won't pair or acts strangely: reset it
- Unplug the controller.
- Find the small hole on the back of the controller and press the button inside with a straightened paper clip for about 5 seconds.
- Connect it with a USB cable and press the PS button, then pair it again if you use Bluetooth.
Common questions
How do I connect a PS5 controller to my PC or Mac?
Use a USB-C cable that carries data, or pair it over Bluetooth: hold the Create button and the PS button together until the light bar flashes, then choose it in Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device on Windows 11, or in System Settings → Bluetooth on a Mac. Once it's connected, press any button on this page.
Why doesn't the DualSense touchpad work in the browser?
Browsers report the touchpad as one button that works when you press the pad down, usually button 17 in Chrome and Edge. They don't pass on where your finger is, so swipes and touch position can't be tested in a browser.
Can I test the DualSense adaptive triggers here?
You can check that L2 and R2 travel all the way and move smoothly. Browsers have no way to switch on the adaptive trigger resistance, so that effect only appears in games and apps that support it, such as on a PS5.
Why doesn't the mute button light up in the test?
Most browsers don't pass the DualSense mute button to web pages, so the test can't see it. That doesn't mean it's broken: on a PS5, the button glows orange when you mute the microphone.
Is my PS5 controller drifting?
Put it on a table, run the stick drift test and don't touch it. More than 0.03 from center at rest is slight drift and more than 0.08 is severe; a reading a few thousandths from center is normal for any stick.
Does a PS5 controller rumble from a web page?
It depends on the browser. Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or later on a Mac can send a simple two-motor rumble to controllers that accept it, and Firefox can't; the rumble buttons in the test show what works on your setup. The detailed haptic effects games use on a PS5 aren't available to web pages.
